Hi!
This is the page where you can find out a bit about me, the creative process, how it all works logistically and I'll answer a few of the most common questions along the way. Ready? Let's go!
From first picking up a camera in 2012 I've been drawn to photographing people. Real, genuine people. The photos I take are born out of connection, conversation, laughing and sharing stories, gently guided by a creative vision to make photographs people love.
"You've captured the real me" - the ultimate compliment.
Through a decade of commercial work, I've seen and photographed some incredible people and places, shooting commissioned work for the likes of BT, Adidas, Santander, Dickies, Specsavers, Peroni, Vans, Barnardos, Barbour, Ducati, YouTube and many more. Bringing that experience to your wedding day means when you're leaning in for that first kiss, I'll be in the right place getting the shot.
The couples I've photographed have trusted me to capture both large, elaborate, high end weddings and small, intimate gatherings at home in the UK and across continental Europe.
My visual style compliments my personal approach, too. Weddings are fun, joyful days and I love talking to the guests and being in amongst the action. This gives the images a feeling of presence and vibrancy, like you're reliving it all over again.
And if you're doing a ceilidh, count me in for a dance!
Testimonial from Jess & Philip
I always knew that if and when I got married, David would have to be the photographer. He has the ability to capture my most authentic self, finding those perfect in between moments of raw emotion and human connection. He was always in the right place at the right time, but never in the way. I have recommended David to any friends tying the knot, and would suggest him for anybody else seeking beautiful, natural imagery to remember their special day.
A few commonly asked questions
Where are you based? I live in Newquay, Cornwall. Perfectly positioned for weddings across the South West of England and I regularly travel further afield for weddings, from Surrey to Switzerland.
Where do we begin? It all starts with an enquiry form to get some key information about your big day. We'd then arrange to meet up for a coffee (or online!) to talk through your vision and take it from there. We'll chat more before the wedding to go over plans for the day and any ideas you may come up with.
What about your availability and pricing? Head over to the enquiries page for a better look at all of the numbers.
We've got this crazy idea... I want to hear it! My dear friends Jess and Philip went skiing on the morning of their wedding and we shot some brilliant photographs of them up the mountain. If you want to do something fun and out there, I'm all ears.
We're planning a whole weekend of activities, can we photograph that too? I love a multi-day wedding. It's often at the pub the night before when everyone gets a chance to meet for the first time or reconnect with old friends. Not only does it present a great opportunity for photographs, it helps your guests be familiar with me and my camera in a less formal setting, making for an even more relaxed wedding day and great candid images.
We're really nervous about being photographed, especially the portraits. You're not alone and it can feel a bit overwhelming. In the time we spend together ahead of the wedding we'll talk about the process and what to expect on the day. I'll happily guide you with gentle direction for portraits and help you stay as comfortable as possible.
Could we do an engagement shoot? Engagement shoots are such a joyous occasion, whether it's captured in real time or used as a warm up for photographing the big day. Get in touch to chat about these further.
Which camera do you use? My main digital kit is a pair of modern Canon mirrorless cameras with a full complement of lenses. I also have a collection of film cameras including 35mm compact and SLR's as well as medium format. Do you have a vision of a wedding shot entirely on film? Let's talk!
What about video? I do that too! Video has always been part of my commercial career and I love making short films. The first wedding I ever captured was on video. If you'd like both photos and video, I have a great network of trusted friends in the industry who'd happily step in to create video whilst I take the photos.
When will we see our photos? You'll receive a small selection of highlights within 48 hours of the wedding; the full set of images being sent within 4 weeks. Videos can take up to 8 weeks depending on your wedding date.
Our wedding falls on a weekday, will the price be cheaper? I keep my wedding bookings to a max of 20 per year so I can give each couple the best service possible. With that in mind, I don't offer discounts for mid-week weddings.
